After days- well, weeks- of begging my parents, they finally gave in and took me out of the palace to the local park. I wanted to go really badly, I mean, how often does royalty get to hang out in the park? We had to ride in a normal car to the park though. Apparently my parents’ advisors don’t see it fit for us to travel in a limo since it’s more than likely to bring unwanted attention towards us.
Still, it was worth it just to finally visit a real park!
I asked Daddy to push me on the swings as hard as he could, I wanted to swing forward enough to go full circle on this swing!
“Watch me Mommy! Look at how high I can go!” I yelled as I got inches higher with each push. “I can see that Keely, just be careful” she said with a warm smile, the kind that she’s known for.
I barely got off the swing when Daddy wrapped his arms around me and began to tickle me. “No Daddy- Hehe- Stop- hehe!” I managed to say in between giggles. “Sorry kiddo, but when the Tickle Monster is let out, he doesn’t stop until he makes his little girl smile.” I laughed for nearly a minute before Daddy stopped and let me breathe.
“Perhaps you should try another slide Keely, this one seems a bit aged..” Dad said while examining the slide. He was always this overprotective. I shook my head and scaled the ladder to the top of the metal slide.
I slid down the blue metal and quickly sped up halfway down. The metal in the lower half was much more slippery and within a moment I’d zoomed down faster than the wind. This caused me to launch off the slide a few feet and land on my behind.
Mommy & Daddy rushed to my side as they lifted me up and examined me for bruises. I shook them off and assured them that I was fine as I patted away the dirt on my dress.
“Well it’s no wonder she’s alright” Daddy began as he stroked my hair, “She was born a tough Mahnton.” I raised my arms in a gesture of pride causing all of us to laugh.
“Still though, someone should tear this place down. After all, it has the potential to hurt other children besides Keely.” I held onto Daddy and begged him not to as Mommy tried to talk him out of it. Like I said before, Daddy is too overprotective.
“Well I suppose someone could redo this area, and improve it.” I cheered as he said it and was ready to go play somewhere else when I caught something- rather, someone out of the corner of my eye.
“Uh, Mommy.. Daddy.. there’s a creepy looking guy staring at us..” I muttered to them.
Normally, I would’ve dismissed people that stare at us as citizens who recognized who we are. Except, there was something about the way he stared at us with his dark purple eyes. Something that sent shivers down my spine.
“Oh, how rude of me. I should bow infront of royals such as yourselves..” the strange man said as he bowed while approaching us. Daddy squinted his eyes and grimaced when he was within several yards of us. Whereas Mommy kept her facial expression calm. If she suspected anything, she didn’t show it.
“It’s an honor to stand infront of King Runos & Queen Myst. Rulers of this grand world” he said in a cheeky tone. I stood back behind Daddy just incase. I still didn’t have much reason to fear this man besides his expression, but I couldn’t help it. It was as if his aura was filled to the brim with dark runic.
“It would also be an honor if you were to give me permission to take Princess Karen Elizabeth with me” he said with a sinister grin on his face as he stood. Daddy clenched his fists as light powered runic emitted from his hands. Mommy joined in as well, still maintaining a calm exterior as their light runic energy entwined with one anothers.
Light flowed in and around my parents as they charged themselves up for a potential battle. This man had requested to take me, and now he was about to see what the consequence was.
“Damn.. and I was hoping we wouldn’t have to resort to violence-”
“-well, actually, I was hoping for it. Such a shame for you two.” I watched on as a great deal of light was absorbed into my parents. Although my parents were among the most adept with runic, I still felt no safer as the man went on talking.
“You see, we need your daughter for something, and it’d be best if you stood aside.”
Right then Mommy dropped her calm facade and pointed a finger at him, “You had better be willing to risk your life if you honestly believe we’ll allow you to lay a finger on our daughter.” Dad took the role of being the calm parent as he analyzed the man.
“He’s full of dark runic Myst” he said to Mommy while keeping his wary eyes on the man.
Within a split second, the man had quickly crossed the gap between us. I jumped back in surprise, unlike my parents who remained fasted to the ground. “That’s quite a nice analysis King Runos, but I’m afraid it won’t help you too much.”
“Cheeky..” Mommy spat towards him.
The man chuckled in response before balling his right hand into a fist and directing it towards Daddy. I closed my eyes, but still heard a cracking sound to which I squeaked in horror.
I quickly opened my eyes to see if Daddy was the one who’d delivered the blow, but instead, I saw that he was nowhere near us. The man grinned and motioned his head in the direction behind me. I squeaked when I caught sight of Daddy struggling to stand against the tree he’d left a sizeable dent in.
I yelled Daddy’s name in horror as he slumped down to the roots of the tree and stopped moving. I hoped to Runic gods that he was unconscious, but the way Mommy gasped led me to believe otherwise.
“Daddy..” I said as tears slid down my face and onto the grass below.
I knew Mommy was forcing back tears as she faced the monster. “You’re going to pay for this dearly. Where you’re going, there is no light, only flames.”
The man only laughed at Mommy’s warning. “Ahh, you mean hell, huh?”
“The irony behind that is; I’ve already been there.” I suddenly felt the urge to run up and punch him, but I could sense that Mommy wanted me to stand back before she attempted anything. Mommy raised her hands in the air, and allowed the light energy to emit from her palms until it slowly condensed into a sphere that emitted warm light. As if it were a miniature sun.
This was the first time I witnessed Mommy unleash her most powerful runic spell. She’d told me that she’d only used this once before under grave conditions. I stared on, mesmerized with the bright orb of light hovering in between Mommy’s palms.
“Cosmic Blaze.. Burn..” she chanted, causing the orb to swirl around, turning the light into flame.
Within seconds the man was engulfed by the searing heat of Mommy’s fire runic. The inferno grew in size as Mommy separated her hands further from each other, allowing the orb of swirling flame to expand in size. I had to stand back farther as it grew. Leaves and branches charred and fell into the blazing pillar of fire. Swiftly, Mommy spread her arms wide apart and clasped them together once again. The orb of fire grew to tremendous size and turned back into light as it shrunk down until it was no longer visible inside Mommy’s clasped palms.
The flame pillar erupted into blinding light right then, bleaching the leaves and anything within several meters.
I reopened my eyes when I believed it safe to look in Mommy’s direction again, hoping to see the man reduced to nothing. No ashes left behind. Simply nothing.
Instead, the man was still standing there, with black smoke billowing from him. For the first time since I saw him, he had a look of utter disgust towards my mother. Mommy’s eyes went wide as she stared at the man who remained unscathed. I barely heard her mutter, “H-how..” The man regained his cheeky facial expression before replying, “Flames, even from light energy, can’t bother me whatsoever.”
With a quick movement, he was at Mommy’s side. I couldn’t help but watch as he delivered a bone crushing blow upon her abdomen.
Mommy only managed to say “Keely.. run..” before collapsing onto the ground. My feet froze in place as I took into realization what had just happened within a couple of minutes.
I tried calling out for help, but the words were caught in my throat and instead I let out a hollow breath.
The man walked over to me with that sinister smile still plastered onto his face. “It’s useless to call for help. Besides, you don’t want more people to die for you, right?” I stared in horror at the monster infront of me. His devious purple eyes locking me where I stood.
“Come along Princess, I want you to meet my new friends.”
“And I’m sure they can’t wait to meet you.”
